Rail Experts appointed to boost South Yorkshire’s rail ambitions

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) has appointed rail development and delivery specialist SLC to support its ambitious rail plan. The move comes as SYMCA looks to improve connectivity and drive growth across the region.

SLC, with 15 years of experience in helping local authorities develop rail strategies, has a proven track record, recently recognised at the NCE Awards where they won the ‘Impact in Local Transport’ award. Their expertise will be crucial in shaping SYMCA’s rail strategy.

Sam Uren, Engineering Director at SLC, said: “We’ve witnessed first-hand how improved connectivity can transform a region through our work on various projects, most recently the Northumberland Line. South Yorkshire has great aspirations and untapped potential, and rail has a key role in realising these growth ambitions.”

In addition to supporting the rail plan, SYMCA has also appointed SLC to its Engineers Consultancy Services Framework Agreement. This appointment covers three Lots: Highways, Park and Ride and Interchange (Lot 1), Heavy Rail (Lot 3), and Facilities Management and Sustainability (Lot 4). This wider framework agreement will allow SLC to provide a range of engineering and transportation services to SYMCA.

Sam added: “Being appointed to assist with the rail plan and being successful on the larger framework is exciting for us and reflects the positivity that we feel about how we at SLC can have an impact on local communities. We can’t wait to support and drive SYMCA’s plans forward.”
