Mick Rayner Appointed to RSSB Board, Representing Infrastructure Contractors

The Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has announced the appointment of Mick Rayner as an Industry Non-Executive Director to its Board, effective 30th June 2025. Rayner will represent infrastructure contractors, ensuring their concerns are a key priority for the RSSB.

Rayner currently serves as the Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s Rail business, a position he has held since 2019. He brings over 20 years of experience leading various companies within the Balfour Beatty Group, with a previous focus on safety and quality as a Director. His career includes work in the UK, Germany, Italy, and Scandinavia.

With extensive experience in leading serious accident investigations, Rayner offers valuable insight into the complex issues and cultural factors critical for enhancing both safety and business performance. He began his career as an apprentice building rolling stock and has held roles at all levels, progressing to Managing Director.

On his appointment, Mick Rayner said: “I’m delighted to join the Board of RSSB. Ensuring the rail industry is safe and constantly seeking to improve the health of those who work in our industry is vital, and I’m looking forward to playing my part in this journey.”

RSSB’s Interim Chair, David Jordan, said: “I’m delighted that Mick has joined the Board, bringing his wealth of experience from senior roles within the infrastructure contracting sector. Mick’s insights and challenge will help RSSB as we work to support the rail industry.”
