ScotRail has welcomed its largest-ever intake of new apprentices, with 46 new positions created across a wide range of roles. The new group brings the total number of apprentices at the train operator to 92, the highest in the company’s history.
The new apprentices include 42 external applicants and four internal colleagues who are progressing through upskilling opportunities. The programme offers a variety of roles, including engineering, customer service, business support, and graduate apprenticeships, providing a route into a rewarding rail career for both school leavers and existing employees.
ScotRail’s apprenticeship scheme provides a mix of practical experience, formal qualifications, and structured mentoring. Apprentices are currently based in engineering, administration, IT, customer service, and finance departments.
The company is committed to ensuring these opportunities are accessible to young people from all backgrounds. The quality of the scheme has already been demonstrated by four recent Customer Service Apprentices who successfully completed their 12-month programme and secured permanent roles within the business.
Julie Dale, ScotRail HR Director, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be welcoming our largest-ever intake of apprentices. It’s a real investment in the future of Scotland’s Railway. Apprenticeships offer a brilliant route into the railway, helping us nurture the next generation of engineers, customer service colleagues, and business professionals. Each new apprentice brings fresh energy, ideas, and ambition to our business, and we’re committed to supporting them every step of the way and helping them thrive.”
