Amey has secured a place on the Network Rail Wales and Western Ecology Framework for the next three years.
Under the framework, Amey will deliver ecology advisory services across the rail network in the Wales and West region. The work will support Network Rail’s aim to meet its biodiversity targets by 2035, covering a range of services including habitat mapping, protected species surveys and assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain metrics, and management plans for invasive and non-native species.
Amey will combine its in-house ecology consultancy expertise with its experience in rail infrastructure to deliver the work. This includes managing emergency works, addressing complex bat licensing requirements for bridge repairs, and ensuring the protection of species during incidents such as landslides.
A digital-led approach will underpin Amey’s delivery. The company will use high-quality night vision equipment for bat surveys and apply its customised UK Habitat (UKHAB) data collection and mapping tool to improve accuracy and efficiency in habitat classification and monitoring. Collaboration with Network Rail will also include climate resilience and sustainability projects, supporting both Network Rail’s environmental goals and Amey’s own nature positive strategy.
