Sheena Smith appointed to RSSB Board as Industry Non-executive Director

The Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has appointed Sheena Smith as an Industry Non-executive Director (Suppliers), strengthening the Board’s expertise in engineering assurance and rail system safety.

Sheena is a founding Director and Technical Director for Assurance at Anturas Consulting, which provides programme management, initiation and technical assurance services for complex infrastructure projects, particularly in the rail sector. She brings more than 25 years’ experience supporting major infrastructure programmes in the UK and internationally.

A Chartered Engineer and Chartered Quality Professional, Sheena is recognised for her specialist knowledge in rail system safety and engineering assurance. At Anturas, she contributes to the strategic direction of the business while supporting clients to deliver complex projects safely and effectively.

Commenting on her appointment, Sheena said:
“It’s a privilege to join RSSB as a non-executive director. My career has centred on rail system safety, engineering assurance and collaborative delivery, and I’m keen to contribute that experience to the Board’s evidence-based decision making.

“I’m looking forward to strengthening the partnership between RSSB and the supply chain so we can help the railway innovate safely and deliver real value on the ground.”

RSSB Chair Chris Burchell welcomed the appointment, highlighting the value of supplier representation at Board level. He said:
“I’m delighted to welcome Sheena to the Board. Her track record spans engineering, quality and assurance across UK and international rail and will add real strength to our governance.

“Sheena also brings an important supplier voice that will help RSSB continue to support a safer, more efficient and more sustainable railway.”

The appointment reinforces RSSB’s focus on collaboration across the industry, ensuring that standards, safety and innovation are informed by practical experience from across the rail supply chain.
