DB Cargo UK secures seven-year vehicle transport contract with CAT UK

DB Cargo UK has signed a new seven-year agreement with automotive logistics provider CAT UK to transport finished vehicles from Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood plant to the Port of Southampton.

The contract will see DB Cargo UK continue operating regular rail services between Merseyside and the south coast, with around three trains currently running each week across the route.

Volumes are expected to increase over time as Jaguar Land Rover progresses major investment at its Halewood facility. The site is being upgraded to support production of the company’s next generation of electric vehicles, which is set to drive higher output in the coming years.

DB Cargo UK has worked with CAT UK, formerly STVA, for more than 20 years, supporting the movement of vehicles for both domestic and international markets.

Roger Neary, Chief Commercial Officer at DB Cargo UK, said the agreement builds on a long-standing partnership.

“It’s a real honour to play a continuing role in the transportation of such an iconic British brand,” he said. “We have worked with CAT UK for more than two decades, helping to move high-value vehicles across the UK and Europe.

“This new contract reinforces our position as a provider of safe and reliable rail freight services.”

Rail continues to play a key role in automotive logistics, particularly for high-volume movements between manufacturing plants and ports. DB Cargo UK said rail freight offers a more sustainable alternative to road transport, with significantly lower carbon emissions per journey.
