Advancing standards for winter welfare: Welfare Hire’s ECOWC2 ensures comfort and safety on site

As the colder temperatures and adverse weather conditions make high-quality welfare facilities essential, Sarah Butcher, Commercial Manager at Welfare Hire Nationwide, highlights the critical need for better sanitation and welfare provisions to maintain workforce health, safety, and productivity during the harsh winter months.

Prioritising welfare during Christmas Works

With winter season now underway and temperatures dropping, the UK’s rail network continues to operate a busy timetable. In the background, the industry’s engineers work around the clock to deliver Network Rail’s essential Christmas and New Year maintenance and improvements to the UK’s rail infrastructure, at busy construction sites around the country.

In the face of freezing temperatures and challenging weather conditions such as rain, snow and sleet, ensuring these workers have access to clean, comfortable, and hygienic facilities becomes an essential part of maintaining safety and wellbeing on site.

High-quality welfare units help protect workers from cold-related illnesses and boost morale, ensuring productivity is maintained even in challenging conditions. Welfare Hire Nationwide is proud to support this mission with the ECOWC2, an eco-friendly mobile XL water-flush toilet unit designed to set new standards in comfort, hygiene, and sustainability.

ECOWC2: Designed for winter durability

The ECOWC2 offers a next-generation solution for mobile welfare, built with sustainability and year-round usability in mind. Powered by renewable energy from advanced lithium batteries and XL solar panels, the unit operates silently and efficiently, without the need for a generator. This not only reduces carbon emissions but also ensures smooth, uninterrupted operation throughout the winter season.

Comfort and hygiene are at the forefront of the ECOWC2’s design. XL water-flush ceramic toilets and spacious changing cubicles provide workers a warm, comfortable space to change and refresh. The unit is equipped with anti-frost systems and hot water handwashing facilities to guarantee usability even in freezing temperatures, supporting health and wellbeing on site.

Key features for winter site success

The ECOWC2 is packed with features specifically designed to enhance welfare during winter working:

  • Two XL WCs and changing cubicles: Spacious and separate cubicles offer enhanced privacy and comfort
  • Hot water washbasins with anti-frost protection: Ensures reliable handwashing facilities, vital for hygiene in cold conditions
  • Smart water and eco-friendly flush systems: Provides chemical-free water flush for sustainable sanitation
  • Rainwater harvesting & greywater recycling: Reduces servicing needs and ensures water efficiency
  • Next-generation lithium battery and telemetry: Guarantees silent, continuous operation with optimised energy usage.

Built to last, in any weather conditions

Designed for durability, the ECOWC2 can be easily transported to any location thanks to its towable design and retractable drawbar, which reduces its onsite footprint. Its tough, anti-vandal steel structure ensures it can withstand even the harshest winter environments, offering reliable performance on construction and rail projects.

The unit also includes a 600L waste tank (sufficient for 1,200 uses) and a 400L freshwater tank, enabling longer service intervals and minimising downtime. Features such as automatic LED lighting and contactless handwashing stations ensure a safer, cleaner, and more efficient working environment.

Smart technology for efficient site management

Equipped with Smart Telemetry, the ECOWC2 allows site managers to monitor usage data, power levels, and tank capacity in real-time. This data-driven approach helps ensure welfare facilities are always available and operating efficiently, reducing environmental impact and maximising site productivity.

Proud to support health, safety and efficiency this winter

At Welfare Hire Nationwide, we believe that high-quality welfare facilities are essential for safeguarding worker wellbeing, particularly during the tough winter months. By providing sustainable, comfortable, and efficient welfare units like the ECOWC2, we are committed to raising industry standards and ensuring workers are supported in even the most challenging environments.
