Amey has been awarded a new contract by Network Rail to deliver multi-disciplinary railway consultancy services on the Leeds to Sheffield corridor, forming part of the wider Northern Powerhouse Rail programme.
The contract, secured through Network Rail’s Development and Design Partnership Framework (DDPF), will see Amey support the development of engineering solutions aimed at improving connectivity between the two cities.
The scheme is focused on increasing network capacity, enabling additional train services and reducing journey times across key routes in the North.
Supporting design and development
Under the agreement, Amey will work closely with Network Rail to provide multi-disciplinary design and consultancy services, developing proposals to enhance performance while minimising disruption during delivery.
Drawing on its experience across rail design, operations and maintenance, the company will produce provisional engineering solutions to support a more reliable and resilient railway for both passenger and freight services.
Colin Wood, Managing Director at Amey, said:
“We are pleased to have secured this contract as part of the Network Rail Development and Design Partnership Framework. This new contract award reflects our strong track record in delivering complex rail solutions and our commitment to supporting improved connectivity across the North of England as part of the Northern Powerhouse Rail programme. We look forward to working closely with Network Rail to deliver solutions that improve performance and resilience across the wider rail network.”
Focus on performance and collaboration
Amey’s approach will centre on systems thinking and integrated delivery, working alongside partners to develop solutions across the full lifecycle of the scheme.
The company will also apply data and digital tools to inform design decisions, including analysing operational factors such as station dwell times and their impact on wider network performance, particularly at Sheffield.
The contract strengthens Amey’s ongoing relationship with Network Rail and marks a further step in progressing plans to upgrade connectivity between Leeds and Sheffield as part of the Northern Powerhouse Rail vision.
