Chela Ltd and CrossCountry Trains Recognised at Green World Awards 2026 for Environmental Best Practice

Chela Ltd, a UK-based specialist manufacturer of cleaning chemicals, has been awarded a Silver Award at the Green World Awards 2026, in partnership with CrossCountry Trains. The award was presented in the Transport, Freight & Highways sector for Environmental Best Practice.

The announcement comes on World Environment Day 2026, the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment, observed annually on 5th June, a fitting moment to highlight the growing role that sustainable chemistry is playing in helping organisations across the facilities management sector reduce their environmental impact.

The Green World Awards are widely regarded as the largest environmental awards campaign on Earth. Celebrating outstanding environmental achievements on a global scale, the awards recognise and reward organisations making a significant contribution to sustainability, setting an international benchmark for best practice in protecting and preserving the planet.

The presentation took place at Cardiff Castle in April 2026, where Derek Smith of Chela Ltd and Paul Crowley of CrossCountry Trains were joined by Helena Hall, UK and Scandinavia Sales Director of TCI, the company awarded Champion of Champions at last year’s Green World Awards.

Part of the Fisher Darville Group, Chela Ltd was established in the UK in 1988 and is a specialist manufacturer of innovative chemicals and technical cleaning solutions. Operating from its headquarters in Enfield, Middlesex, with worldwide distribution and manufacture, Chela’s UK-based research laboratories develop innovative, technically advanced cleaning solutions for a broad range of industries — including all mass transport (rail, bus, coach, tram and aviation), facilities management, food and beverage processing, and institutional cleaning.

Chela’s scientists are committed to delivering chemical formulations that provide superior cleaning results whilst remaining cost-effective and increasingly environmentally responsible. The company’s PureClean® range represents a significant step forward in sustainable cleaning chemistry: a complete portfolio of 100% plant-based cleaners derived from sustainable biomass, which enables customers to eliminate petroleum-based ingredients from their supply chain entirely. Every litre of PureClean® utilised generates a CO₂ saving of 0.12kg compared to conventional petroleum-derived alternatives. All PureClean® products are supplied in PCR Grade packaging, and Chela operates a complete container recycling service including collection and reuse.

Chela holds ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) accreditations, is a BICSc-accredited supplier, a Living Wage employer, and a member of the Rail Alliance. The company has a long-standing record of Green Apple Environment Award wins for carbon reduction and innovation, reflecting its deep commitment to sustainable chemistry in partnership with clients across the transport and FM industries.
