Colas Rail UK has been awarded a key contract by Rail for London Infrastructure (RFLI), a subsidiary of Transport for London (TfL), for the operation and maintenance of on-track plant machinery critical to the Elizabeth Line.
The contract focuses primarily on the Central Operating Section of the Elizabeth Line, ensuring the vital commuter route can be maintained to high standards with minimal disruption. The work is scheduled to be completed mainly during the night when the line is closed to the public.
Specialised Equipment and Expertise
The fleet covered by the contract includes highly specialised machinery essential for rail maintenance and renewal. This includes a Linsinger MG31 Railhead Profiler (also known as a Rail Milling Machine), alongside two Robel Engineering Trains composed of four power cars and associated maintenance plant.
Colas Rail UK stated that the contract leverages its growing expertise in rail milling and maintenance operations.
Tony Birrell, Colas Rail UK’s Head of Plant Operations, said: “With our ever-growing expertise in Rail Milling operations and maintenance, we are delighted to be supporting RFLI and TfL to help ensure the Elizabeth Line remains a key route for UK commuters.”
The partnership is set to play a crucial role in the long-term operational reliability of the Elizabeth Line, which has become one of the UK’s busiest railway routes since its full opening.
