Concrete Canvas installs showcase product at Global Centre of Rail Excellence

Concrete Canvas Ltd has installed its flagship product at the Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE) site in South Wales, becoming the latest organisation to take part in the facility’s growing showcase programme.

The Pontyclun-based company has deployed its Concrete on a Roll® solution at the site, a flexible, concrete-filled geotextile that hardens when hydrated to form a durable, waterproof layer with lower carbon impact than traditional methods.

GCRE, currently under development, is set to become a purpose-built hub for international rail research, testing and the development of net zero technologies. Ahead of its full opening, the site has already introduced a 500-metre Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) line, alongside a wider 1,000-metre demonstration area designed to showcase products in a live rail environment.

Concrete Canvas’ installation forms part of this demonstration zone, allowing industry stakeholders to see the product applied in situ.

Anton Booth, Technical Sales Representative for Wales and the South West at Concrete Canvas, said the installation marks an important step for the business.

“As a Welsh-based company working across mining, rail and infrastructure, we’re proud to support the vision GCRE is bringing to South Wales,” he said. “Showcasing our product here provides a valuable opportunity to demonstrate its practical benefits in a real-world rail setting.”

Arthur Emyr, Head of Business Development and Engagement at GCRE Ltd, said the initiative is designed to support innovation across the supply chain.

“The showcasing offer at GCRE allows organisations of all sizes to bring their products into a representative rail environment and engage directly with industry,” he said. “With visitors attending from across sectors and international markets, it offers a strong platform to present new technologies.”

He added that the facility has the potential to play a significant role in shaping the future of rail, with the showcase zone helping to demonstrate both emerging solutions and the capabilities of the site itself.
