GTR extends depot maintenance contract with MTMS Until 2025

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has extended its maintenance contract with MTMS until 2025, with an option to extend further to 2027.

The agreement will see MTMS continue to maintain GTR’s 18 depots, spanning a wide geographical area from Peterborough down to Eastbourne, including key locations such as Bedford, Selhurst in South London, and Bognor Regis in West Sussex.

GTR’s extensive network, encompassing a 516-strong train fleet and a 1,300km network, facilitates 340 million passenger journeys annually. MTMS’s responsibilities under the contract include the maintenance of carriage wash machines and controlled emission toilets, the provision of a comprehensive asset list, electrical installation condition testing on equipment, and a planned carriage wash machine (CWM) flail/brush replacement programme.

Matt Forst, managing director of MTMS, expressed his delight at the contract extension, stating, “The scale and scope of GTR’s network is incredible and underlines what a tremendous job our staff have been doing for GTR for the past few years. Each year, millions of people rely on GTR’s trains to get them to work, take them on a day trip or even get them to the airport, so we are ready to play our part in ensuring that they get there safely.”

Peter Stretton, operations director at MTMS, highlighted the demanding nature of the contract, adding, “This contract is a huge undertaking, especially since we offer both planned and reactive maintenance in all weathers, all year round, working in an industry where hitting targets is of critical importance.”

The extended contract signifies GTR’s continued trust in MTMS’s ability to maintain its critical depot infrastructure, ensuring the smooth operation of its vast rail network.
