HS2 Chair to step down

Sir Jon Thompson, Chair of HS2 Ltd, has announced his intention to step down from his role in the spring of 2025.

Sir Jon joined the HS2 Board in 2021 and has been instrumental in guiding the project through a critical period. He recently served as Executive Chair while the recruitment of a new CEO, Mark Wild, was underway.

Under Sir Jon’s leadership, HS2 Ltd and its supply chain, employing over 30,000 people, have made significant progress in constructing the high-speed railway infrastructure.

The recruitment process for a new Chair will commence shortly to ensure a smooth transition and continued momentum for the project.

Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander, said: “I want to thank Sir Jon for his work over nearly 4 years to progress Britain’s largest rail project.

“He has provided strong leadership during challenging times for the project, and we are grateful for his service.

“The coming months will see fresh leadership commence under new CEO Mark Wild, as we work to grip budgets and deliver the line cost-effectively for passengers and taxpayers.”
