Siemens Mobility champions Social Value with over 4,000 Hours of Community Volunteering

Siemens Mobility has unveiled its 2024 Social Value Report, showcasing its dedication to positive social impact alongside its core business activities. The report highlights significant progress in achieving its social value goals and outlines ambitions for further integration into everyday practices.

Throughout 2024, Siemens Mobility spearheaded a range of impactful initiatives:

  • Safety First: Partnering with Rail Safe Friendly, the company educated young people on railway safety across 101 schools nationwide. This crucial initiative raises awareness and reduces the dangers of trespassing on railway lines.
  • STEM Champions in Wales: The Core Valley Line project team actively boosted STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) engagement across five schools in the Newport area, reaching over 100 children.
  • Supporting Diverse Abilities: Led by Senior Engineer Chris Harris, Siemens Mobility demonstrated its commitment to inclusion by donating £2,000 and contributing over 300 volunteer hours to Diverse Abilities, a charity supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Enhancing Local Railways: Siemens Mobility actively supports the Community Rail Network, a grassroots movement. Employees dedicated time to various initiatives, including station improvements at Welwyn Garden City Station. The company’s dedication extends further with an employee serving as a board member for Chippenham’s local Community Rail Partnership (CRP), TransWilts.
  • Inspiring Future Engineers: The company collaborated with the Primary Engineer programme, engaging 1,161 pupils in engaging STEM sessions. Furthermore, Siemens Mobility welcomed six special educational needs (SEND) interns at its Goole Rail Village.

Stuart Heaton, Managing Director of Rail Safe Friendly, said: “We are delighted to be working with Siemens Mobility. Through their support we have been able to reach even more young people with vital rail safety awareness.”

Sambit Banerjee, Joint UK&I CEO and Managing Director for Rolling Stock and Customer Services said: “At Siemens Mobility, we are not just delivering trains and rail infrastructure from Britain, for Britain — we are delivering social value. From driving sustainable transport solutions to creating jobs, empowering local suppliers and bridging the industry skills gap, we are committed to building a stronger, greener future for the UK.”

Rob Morris, Joint UK&I CEO and Managing Director for Rail Infrastructure said: “Our team’s dedication goes beyond rail by making a positive impact in communities across the UK. I am incredibly proud of our people, who are working to transform rail travel, empower future generations and make a lasting difference for everyone.”

Hazel Lavery, Events & Fundraising Manager at the Community Rail Network said: “It’s an absolute pleasure working with the team to develop Siemens’ social value impact within community rail, bringing mutual benefit all round. The partnership just goes from strength to strength, achieving outcomes such as multiple volunteering days across the country.”

Social Value at the Core:

Social value is fundamental to Siemens Mobility’s business approach, driving programs that uplift communities and create lasting opportunities. Through skill-building initiatives and educational outreach, the company actively addresses the industry’s skills gap and empowers the next generation of rail engineers.
