Siemens Mobility has been awarded four significant contracts by HS2 Ltd, solidifying its role in the delivery of Britain’s new high-speed railway. The German engineering giant will join the Rail Systems Alliance, contributing expertise in key areas including signalling, power, and telecommunications.
Cutting-Edge Technology
The contracts encompass:
- Command, Control, Signalling & Traffic Management (CCS&TM): Siemens Mobility will implement advanced Automatic Train Operation (ATO) technology on the 225-kilometre line. This will enable semi-automatic train operations, boosting capacity, punctuality, and energy efficiency.
- Engineering Management System: Leveraging Siemens Mobility’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology, this system will provide real-time control and monitoring of railway equipment, enhancing reliability and efficiency.
- High Voltage (HV) Power Supply Systems: In a joint venture with Costain Ltd, Siemens Mobility will design, install, and maintain the high-voltage power supply systems along the HS2 route.
- Operational Telecommunications and Security Systems: The company will design and implement comprehensive telecommunications and security systems for the entire HS2 route, ensuring robust and secure operations.
All contracts include long-term maintenance agreements, with Siemens Mobility providing technical support for at least 15 years in some cases. The total order value is estimated at approximately £560 million.
