The sky’s the limit for SIS as it supports the industry with changing PPE requirements

Grant Baggley, General Manager at SIS, discusses the PPE provider’s enhanced digital services, cost-competitive products, 24/7 team and its 24/7 operation.

SIS, a UK-wide specialised retailer offering personal protective equipment (PPE), workwear, safety gear, hi-visibility clothing (hi-vis), footwear and industrial supplies, has experienced significant growth under new leadership in 2024.

As the industry implements further safety standards, and PPE requirements have changed the needs and requirements of the rail industry frontline, SIS has positioned itself as a knowledgeable provider within the sector to support businesses with PPE compliance. While many of these regulations have incurred further costs for many businesses, SIS is working with its clients to maintain affordability and a same consistent level of service.

Having joined the company just over 18 months ago, Grant has propelled SIS to new heights in its dedication to delivering top-quality service to its customers. Reflecting on his experience, Grant said: “Joining SIS presented an opportunity for us to deliver 24/7 services where we could be dynamic and responsive to frontline requirements. We’ve integrated railway knowledge with PPE expertise to be able to transform our service into one that is very railway centric.

“We benefit from working within the industry, so we truly understand the challenges that frontline colleagues face on a day-to-day basis. As a result, we stock based on what is important to client needs so that we can be prepared for high levels of demand. This is why our clients have returned to us again and again.”

Grant has played a pivotal role in the makeover of its UK stores, driving a nationwide operation, capable of providing high-quality PPE and workwear across the country with fast delivery.

For rail companies, PPE has to be branded correctly and compliant with Network Rail regulations, something which the team continuously review and adapt its services to provide further cost savings to its customers.

“We operate 24/7, ensuring that we fulfil customer orders promptly,” Grant explains. “We’ve employed people who know how to lead high-quality heat seal and embroidery services, so that not only can we provide any items, but we can also deliver them with the branding they require to deliver with 100% compliance.”

SIS’s dedication to top-tier customer service is further evident in its commitment to being a cost-effective provider in the industry, prioritising quality without compromise. Research on railway colleagues has shown while PPE should have a 3-year lifespan, there are some brands that deteriorate much faster. SIS focuses on stocking with suppliers that complete stringent quality checks, so that its customers are able to benefit from additional costs savings made by not needing to replace PPE as fast.

Grant elaborates, saying, “We invest in top-quality products without cutting corners. To control costs, we optimise team practices, leverage bulk orders for discounts and form strategic partnerships. It’s about efficiency without compromising safety.

“This is also so important in reducing wastage and improving our customers’ environmental impact. PPE has to be used and will therefore, in time, provide an environmental impact. We’re determined to reduce that as much as possible.”

Grant aims to expand their footprint to reach clients in both the north and south regions. He shares, “We are working to launch further SIS stores throughout the UK beyond the ones we have currently, bringing us closer to our valued clients. We thrive on providing a personal service, and proximity to those down in the major regions will help us to provide the responsive service we have become renowned for.”
