The Transpennine Route Upgrade’s (TRU) West Alliance has received The Most Outstanding Award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) in its National Site Awards, recognising the project’s exemplary approach to responsible construction.
The TRU West Alliance is delivering major rail upgrades on sections of the Transpennine route between Manchester and Leeds. The award highlights the Alliance’s exceptional performance across the CCS Code of Considerate Practice, which measures how projects support their workforce, protect the environment, and engage positively with local communities.
As a registered member of the CCS, the TRU West Alliance undergoes independent annual audits across its construction compounds between Manchester, Huddersfield and Leeds. The Alliance has been recognised for its sustainability initiatives, including the use of solar and wind-powered equipment, ultra-low carbon tarmac at its Huddersfield and Ravensthorpe compounds, and the repurposing of more than 10,000 tonnes of recycled ballast and stone for road and car park construction.
In addition to its environmental achievements, the wider TRU programme has made a significant social impact across the region. More than 410 apprentices are currently working on the project, while over 64,000 children have taken part in STEAM education activities. The programme has invested £813 million locally and generated £2.2 billion in social value.
