RSSB launches free E-Learning Course to boost sustainability awareness across rail

The Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has announced the launch of a new free e-learning course designed to enhance sustainability knowledge and understanding across the rail industry.

This initiative aligns with the 2023 launch of the Sustainable Rail Blueprint, which emphasises the critical need to cultivate a culture of sustainability within the sector. By equipping employees with the necessary knowledge, skills, and mindset, the Blueprint aims to integrate sustainability considerations into all aspects of rail operations.

The engaging 30-minute e-learning module utilises a captivating “pop-up book” theme to guide learners through key sustainability concepts, including:

  • The significance of sustainability for the rail industry.
  • The industry’s sustainability goals outlined in the Sustainable Rail Blueprint.
  • Key strategies for achieving a more sustainable railway.
  • Individual roles and responsibilities in advancing sustainability.

This course complements RSSB’s existing suite of sustainability-focused training offerings, including bespoke training programs and a certified Carbon Literacy for Rail course.

Thom Rawson, Sustainable Development Principal at RSSB said: “We want to help everyone working in the rail sector understand their role in improving environmental and social sustainability.

“Our new free e-learning module is a quick and easy solution to raise awareness about why sustainability matters, what the challenges are, and how we can fix them.”

The e-learning module is freely available to all RSSB member organisations and is designed to be easily integrated into their existing learning management systems.
