The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has authorised three new stations on the Camp Hill Line in south Birmingham, clearing the way for passenger services to return to the route for the first time in more than 80 years.
Moseley Village, Kings Heath and Pineapple Road stations are scheduled to open on 7 April 2026.
The reopening will see West Midlands Railway operate two services per hour between Birmingham New Street and Kings Norton via the new stations. Journey times to the city centre are expected to be around 12 minutes from Moseley Village, 15 minutes from Kings Heath and 17 minutes from Pineapple Road.
ORR’s authorisation confirms that the stations meet required standards across safety, accessibility, environmental protection, reliability and operational readiness.
All three stations have been built with step-free access, including lifts between platforms, alongside car parking and cycle storage facilities.

The regulator worked closely with the West Midlands Combined Authority, Network Rail, West Midlands Rail Executive and the wider project team throughout the approval process to ensure all necessary checks and assessments were completed.
Steve Fletcher, Deputy Director of Engineering and Asset Management at ORR, said:
“This is an important step in bringing passenger rail back to the Camp Hill Line and improving connectivity for communities in south Birmingham.
“We’re pleased to have played our part in getting Moseley Village, Kings Heath and Pineapple Road ready to open. Our team worked closely with the project partners through the authorisation process, just as we do for new trains and infrastructure across the country.”
The authorisation marks a key milestone ahead of the return of passenger services, reconnecting communities along the Camp Hill Line with Birmingham city centre.
