Spencer Group has announced the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as its official Charity of the Year for 2026, following a company-wide employee vote.
The Hull-based engineering firm, which has more than 40 years’ experience delivering ports and marine projects, selected the RNLI in recognition of its vital role in maritime safety. Headquartered on the banks of the River Humber, Spencer Group operates in an environment closely aligned with the charity’s lifesaving work.
Founded in 1824, the RNLI has saved more than 146,700 lives across the UK and Ireland. The organisation relies heavily on volunteers, with 97% of its frontline lifesavers serving on a voluntary basis, supported by a network of fundraisers and community contributors.
Throughout 2026, Spencer Group employees will lead a programme of fundraising activities coordinated by its Charity Champions. Early efforts have already raised more than £900 towards a £10,000 target, through initiatives including a bake sale, spring raffle and weekly dress-down events.
The partnership was formally launched with a visit from RNLI Water Safety Officer Martin Read, who delivered a presentation at the company’s headquarters, outlining the charity’s history and ongoing impact.
Amelia Kitching, Internal Communications Coordinator and Charity Champion at Spencer Group, said: “It was a privilege to be part of the RNLI presentation, having nominated the charity as our Charity of the Year. I’m proud to support such a worthwhile cause and look forward to raising both funds and awareness throughout the year.”
Laura Warner, Fundraising and Partnership Lead at the RNLI, added: “We’re incredibly proud to be named Charity of the Year by Spencer Group. Partnerships like this are vital in helping us share water safety messages and continue our mission to save lives at sea.”
The collaboration will see Spencer Group support the RNLI through fundraising and awareness campaigns across the year.
