Heads of Safety Group appoints new Chair

Don McClurg, Head of Safety and Standards at Edinburgh Trams, has been appointed the new Chair of a working group led by the organisation responsible for reducing the risk of accidents on UK tramways.

The former Vice-Chairman of the LRSSB’s Heads of Safety Group follows in the footsteps of Andy Wallace, who has stepped down from the role following his move from Tram Operations Limited.

A former Combat Medical Technician in the army, Don joined Edinburgh Trams in 2013 where he has previously worked as a duty manager, assistant safety manager and safety manager.

On his new role, Don said: “The Heads of Safety Group plays an important role in shaping the work of the LRSSB, helping the organisation to deliver on its objectives and supporting safety professionals across the light rail industry.

“I’m delighted that colleagues from across the sector have entrusted me with building on the excellent work of my predecessor and, on behalf of the group, I would like to wish Andy all the very best for the future.”

In addition to confirming Don as its new Chair, the latest Heads of Safety meeting saw the appointment of Paul Cooper, Head of Health, Safety and Operational Standards at Keolis Amey Metrolink, as its new Vice Chair.
