Network Rail Consulting Announces Key Leadership Change for Global Technical Director Role

Network Rail Consulting (NRC) has announced a significant leadership transition within its global technical division. Barny Daley, formerly Global Technical Director, stepped down from his position on 7th April 2025. He will be succeeded by Mike Gallop, who assumes the dual role of Global Technical Director and Regional Director for the Middle East.

Barny Daley has been instrumental in fostering NRC’s collaborative relationship with Network Rail, facilitating the crucial exchange of knowledge and best practices between NRC’s international clientele and the UK railway operator. In his new capacity, Barny will transition to a Project Director role, supporting regional teams with project delivery.

Barny Daley commented: “I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the development of NRC, supporting the growth to three times the size of the company I joined. I am proud that in everything we do, our clients are 98% satisfied or very satisfied and I look forward to continuing to support our regions with their growth and delivering high quality advice to our clients.”

Mike Gallop initially joined NRC as Project Director in January 2023, bringing over two decades of experience in leadership and the delivery of complex railway system programmes. Prior to his tenure at NRC, Mike served as Western Route Director at Network Rail, where he oversaw the enhancements programme and led the implementation of strategic plans into operational delivery, including change management programmes and transformational safety initiatives.

In his new role, Mike Gallop will be responsible for providing technical engineering and asset management expertise to NRC and its international clients. He will also lead and expand the company’s team in the Middle East.

Mike Gallop remarked: “I look forward to working with the Global NRC Team to continue to develop the capabilities and capacity of the NRC business and provide great solutions to meet the challenges our clients’ face.”

Nigel Ash, Global Managing Director at NRC, added: “Barny has provided tremendous support to myself and the NRC business over the last 8 years, I will be sorry to see him step-back from the Global Technical Director role. However, I am delighted that we have someone with such wide ranging railway expertise and experience as Mike Gallop.”
