Since launching at the beginning of the month, we have had a lot of conversations – whether via our weekly podcasts, interviews, or general discussions – with businesses who have been open and candid about the challenges they are having to overcome in the rail industry in order to win and maintain work.
Core businesses within that conversation is SMEs, and it has been positive and refreshing to hear the candid discussions being had by smaller companies about the innovation and measures they are taking, as well as the conversations they are having with buying organisations to improve the difficult landscape they currently face.
Rail Industry Connect will be a voice for SMEs to share their challenges. We want to be a resource that supports businesses across the entire procurement process – and part of that process is connecting with the wider rail community to discuss what companies are having to overcome in the current climate in order to grow.
Use Rail Industry Connect and its various tools to support your business development strategy along the process, whether that is:
- Pre-procurement – raising awareness of your business and the people in your business and connecting with the wider industry. We can do this through various profile-raising channels, in written, audio and visual formats, including content directly to the people you are targeting. We’ve already seen a host of companies engage with us in podcast episodes to talk about their stories and what they’ve had to overcome.
- Use resources to build a compelling proposition and develop your content – we will support you with useful intel, resources and reports, as well as podcast episodes relevant to work winning activity (such as bid writing tips and support, interviews with procurement managers, etc.) to help inform how you drive your business through this process.
- Build strong relationships – we will connect you with and make recommendations of key events and opportunities to build relationships with buying organisations. Developing a strong proposition is one part of the procurement process, but people will always buy people, and the power of building personal connections cannot be underestimated. Combined with effective profile raising activity, this is an essential tool to winning more work.
- Rigorous review and continuous improvement – a proposition will always need updating with current requirements and trends. Rail Industry Connect will be a partner to help you understand those changes and adaptations.
Rail Industry Connect is a huge opportunity for SMEs to bolster additional tools onto business development and marketing strategies to win work, alongside being a voice that supports SMEs.
