Women in Rail Unveils Ambitious Strategic Business Plan for 2025-2027

Women in Rail has today announced the launch of its Strategic Business Plan 2025–2027, described as its most ambitious and action-focused plan to date. Developed in close collaboration with key industry partners and drawing on lived experiences, the plan sets out a clear and strategic roadmap to foster a more inclusive, balanced, and supportive UK rail industry over the next two years.

At the heart of the new plan is a clear shift from simply stating ambitions to taking concrete action, with a strong emphasis on tangible steps and shared responsibility across the sector. The strategy is built around four key pillars:

  • Attract – Bringing more women into the rail industry.
  • Engage – Increasing connection and awareness across all levels of the industry.
  • Support – Creating an environment where women can thrive professionally.
  • Promote – Championing female talent and leadership within the sector.

Marie Daly, Chair of Women in Rail, said: “This plan is not just a statement of intent, it is a practical, actionable framework that aligns our mission with the needs of the industry. By concentrating our efforts around these four pillars, Attract, Engage, Support, and Promote we are focusing on the areas where we can make the most meaningful and lasting difference. We are calling on everyone in the sector to be part of this journey, join us in our mission in being unapologetic in our pursuit of gender equity across the rail industry.”

How You Can Get Involved

Women in Rail has emphasised that the involvement of individuals and organisations across the sector will be crucial in delivering the desired change. They are encouraging stakeholders to:

  • Share and advocate for the plan within their own organisations.
  • Become corporate members of Women in Rail.
  • Connect with their local Women in Rail regional groups to explore opportunities for collaboration.
  • Partner with Women in Rail nationally on campaigns, mentoring schemes, sponsorships, and development initiatives.
  • Offer their expertise and insight to help shape the future delivery of the plan.
  • Join existing Women in Rail groups, such as SWIFT (Supporting Women in Freight and Traction), Mind the Gap, and the WR Mentoring Programme.

In the coming weeks, Women in Rail has pledged to share further details on how the Board of Trustees will oversee the implementation of the plan and provide comprehensive information on how individuals and organisations can contribute at both local and national levels.
