Amey has been awarded two major framework contracts by Network Rail’s Eastern Region, securing work worth up to £40 million over the next five years and reinforcing its long-standing role in supporting the safety and resilience of the railway network.
The contracts, awarded under Network Rail’s Eastern Region Assessment Contract (ERAC) framework, will see Amey deliver structural assessment services across both the North and South Lots, representing the maximum award available through the programme.
The work spans some of the country’s most strategically important rail corridors, including the East Coast Main Line, Anglia, North & East routes and the East Midlands network.
The appointment builds on more than two decades of experience delivering structural assessment services in the region, with Amey having supported Network Rail’s infrastructure management activities since 2003.
Under the framework, the company will undertake detailed assessments of railway bridges and structures to ensure they remain safe, compliant and capable of meeting current and future operational demands.
The programme will involve inspections, engineering analysis and structural evaluations designed to identify emerging risks, verify asset performance and determine load-bearing capability. The resulting data and recommendations will support Network Rail in making informed decisions around maintenance, strengthening works, renewals and operational planning.
As infrastructure across the network continues to age, structural assessment programmes are becoming increasingly important in helping asset owners prioritise investment and maximise the lifespan of existing structures while maintaining safety and reliability.
The work also plays a critical role in supporting the movement of both passenger and freight services, ensuring infrastructure remains capable of accommodating evolving operational requirements, including heavier freight loads and future network enhancements.
Justin Page, Business Director for Rail at Amey, said the award reflects the strength of the company’s long-standing relationship with Network Rail.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Network Rail through the Eastern Region Assessment Contracts,” he said.
“This award reflects the strength of our long-standing relationship, and the trust Network Rail has in our capability and collaborative approach.”
He added that the framework would support smarter investment decisions and improve long-term infrastructure performance across the region.
The contracts come at a time when infrastructure managers are increasingly focused on asset intelligence and evidence-based decision-making to improve network resilience while achieving greater value from maintenance and renewal budgets.
For the wider rail industry, the framework highlights the growing importance of detailed asset assessment and predictive engineering approaches in managing a complex and ageing infrastructure portfolio.
By combining inspection data, engineering expertise and advanced analysis techniques, programmes such as ERAC help provide the information needed to prioritise investment, reduce operational risk and maintain reliable railway services for passengers and freight customers alike.
The latest award further strengthens Amey’s position within the rail infrastructure sector and continues a partnership that has supported the management of critical railway assets across the Eastern Region for more than 20 years.
